Although most every attorney knows that the discovery process is important, many attorneys often forget how crucial the discovery process can be in the success of a case at final trial. Not only is discovery important to find out what the opposing party may use against you at trial, but it is the best tool a litigator can use to prepare a winning strategy, counsel the client against losing strategies and to prevent surprises at trial that could cost your client dearly. In this seminar, we will discuss tips, tricks, and the importance of thorough discovery in anticipation of litigating a divorce case.
You will learn how to dig for relevant personal information an opposing party may be hesitant to disclose, what financial information to target based on the issues to be litigated, when to employ an expert, how to use an expert to assist with the discovery process and how to avoid discovery errors or use errors against the other side. We will dive into tailoring discovery to the issues in your case including different industries, such as oil and gas, education, military, and federal employees. Finally, we will discuss how to effectively budget your client’s time and money and preparing discovery for trial.
