Session I - Asset Protection Planning – Jacob Stein

From the underlying substantive law to practical aspects of making your client judgment-proof (i.e., what works and what does not), this program will provide an overview on protecting your clients’ assets from plaintiffs, creditors, and government agencies. We will focus on the strategies and solutions used to protect common assets such as houses, bank and brokerage accounts, businesses, professional practices, and retirement plans. The instructor will share real-life stories and anecdotes and will present a very practical approach to protecting assets. The discussion will also cover asset protection planning in a troubled economy, focusing on protecting assets from lenders and landlords and how to plan after a lawsuit, a default, or an accident.

Books authored by Jacob include A Lawyer’s Guide to Asset Protection Planning in California, Second Edition; International Joint Ventures – A Concise Guide for Attorneys & Business Owners; and Asset Protection for California Residents, Second Edition, the first and only book in print on asset protection planning specific to California residents that provides a sophisticated and in-depth look at the law in an accessible manner.

Jacob was an adjunct professor of taxation at the CSU, Northridge Graduate Tax Program for ten years. He lectures frequently to attorneys, CPAs, and other professional groups, teaching over 50 seminars per year for state and local bar associations, estate planning councils, and international networking organizations. Jacob is an instructor with the California CPA Education Foundation, Thomson Reuters, the Rossdale Group, Spidell Publishing, and many more.

Blake is the founder of the Blockchain Asset Protection Council and an active member of the American Bar Association and International Bar Association. Blake has been a member in good standing of the Florida Bar since 2010 (Florida Bar number: 86486) and the Colorado Bar since 2013 (Colorado Bar number: 45942).

Outside of work, Blake enjoys traveling and spending time with family.
