This CLE presentation will cover branding concerns in the evolving digital world, particularly as it relates to blockchain and NFTs. We will include a brief overview of what blockchain technology and NFTs are. We will then discuss relevant ownership considerations and challenges with intellectual property rights as it relates to transactions regarding NFTs (specifically, trademark, internet domains, and copyright), along with an overview of relevant litigation. This presentation will also discuss brand owners’ risks when operating a domain on the blockchain and enforcement strategies.

Yugo’s practice focuses on intellectual property infringement litigation in the high-tech and manufacturing technology industry. He works with American and Asian companies in the IP arena. He has litigated before the U.S. International Trade Commission and Federal District Courts. He is also experienced with assisting and advising Japanese companies and foreign-owned subsidiaries in the U.S. with various legal needs.
Yugo is also a member of Frost Brown Todd’s Data Services team focusing primarily on international and domestic data privacy issues involving international data transfers, GDPR compliance, U.S. federal regulations, and CCPA/CPRA compliance issues for domestic and international clients.
Yugo is a Bengoshi (Japanese Attorney) who litigated before the Tokyo District Court and Tokyo High Court. There, he represented technology companies on matters ranging from patent and trademark licensing agreements to international mergers and acquisitions.

Taylor focuses her practice on Intellectual Property, serving clients across various industries central to the Tennessee economy. Taylor’s experience ranges from reviewing and drafting agreements from third-party licenses and drafting memoranda on legal issues including trademark and fiscal sponsorship issues for large-scale corporate clients and independent records labels and publishing companies.
While in law school, Taylor was provisionally licensed to practice law under a faculty supervisor in the University of Tennessee College of Law’s Business Clinic. There she drafted bylaws, operating agreements, confidentiality agreements, and various other contracts and legal documents for clients. It is there Taylor began negotiating confidentiality agreements, and the following definitive agreements, as well as filing trademark applications and notice of opposition.
