Cause-Related marketing takes many forms when commercial companies invoke charitable purposes as part of their advertising. While such programs can be effective in generating goodwill and/or sales, they also can trigger regulation under laws governing charitable fundraising, including requirements for contracts, disclosures, and in some cases state registration. Learn the rules nationwide in all states governing the most popular forms of cause-related marketing, including charitable sales promotions (donation triggered by purchase of product), free-action programs (similar but without purchase), and donation-at-checkout. Special attention will be given to California’s new online charitable fundraising platform law which may have surprising implications for some of these programs.
