Program Summary

California has enacted a new law (Code of Civ. P. § 999, et seq.) that governs “time-limited demands” made after January 1, 2023. “Time-limited demands” that do not substantially comply with the new law will no longer be considered “reasonable” in lawsuits seeking extra-contractual damages against liability insurers. Sheppard Mullin’s Jordan Derringer and Michael Bean will discuss some of the new law’s key provisions, including new requirements for claimants and liability insurers.

This course is co-sponsored with myLawCLE.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • The new law’s scope and important carveouts
  • The uncertainties in the new law that will drive future litigation
  • How the new law fits into the national trend of regulating policy limit demands
