A primer on New Jersey expungements. The seminar will cover expungement eligibility and procedural and substantive issues for the filing of expungements. There have been many recent amendments to the New Jersey expungement laws, increasing eligibility for thousands of previously disqualified individuals. The amendments will be addressed, as well as recent caselaw pertaining to expungement law.

James B. Seplowitz has practiced exclusively in the field of criminal law for the past 18 years and has successfully expunged criminal records for hundreds of clients. He is a founding partner of the criminal defense firm of Foy & Seplowitz LLC and is admitted to practice in both New Jersey and New York. He was named in the New Jersey Super Lawyers publication as a “Rising Star” in criminal defense from 2012 through 2014, and as a “Super Lawyer” in criminal defense from 2015 through 2022. He is a member of the Bergen County Bar Association’s Executive Board and is the current Chair of the District II-B Ethics Committee of the New Jersey Office of Attorney Ethics. Mr. Seplowitz has a master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati. He received his law degree in 2003 from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, New York, NY, and is a magna cum laude graduate of Yeshiva College, Yeshiva University (B.A. in History).
