Session I - 2022 Medicare Secondary Payer Update – Christine Hummel

This CLE will provide an overview of the Medicare Secondary Payer Act (MSP). In addition, the course will discuss the impact of the PAID act and the new civil money penalty for failure to comply with the Section 111 reporting requirement. Finally, the course will examine possible upcoming changes to the MSP and how those changes may impact settlements and settlement negotiations.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • The proposed Section 111 Civil Money Penalties and when a final rule may be published
  • Possible new proposed rules for future medical allocations
  • The PAID act and its impact on Medicare Part C and D conditional payment searches

Session II – Qualifying Clients for Nursing Home Care – Nicholas Ryan

Next, the course will cover the spousal protections afforded under the Medicaid for a married couple and what asset and income planning techniques are available when only one spouse needs Medicaid. Finally, the course will examine what options are available to single applicants in need of Medicaid services.
