Alan Winston Granwell_FedBarAlan Winston Granwell | Holland & Knight

Alan Granwell is an attorney in Holland & Knight’s Washington, D.C., office, with more than 50 years of experience in international taxation. In his long and wide-ranging career, he has represented multinational corporations and globally oriented high-net-worth clients in a broad array of international tax planning, compliance and controversy matters, including serving as an expert witness.

Mr. Granwell also advises on tax transparency initiatives, including the Corporate Transparency Act (which will have widespread application to privately held companies and their beneficial owners), the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act, the Common Reporting Standard and the U.S. Department of Justice Swiss Bank Program.

In the early 1980s, Mr. Granwell was the International Tax Counsel and Director, Office of International Tax Affairs, U.S. Department of the Treasury. In that capacity, Mr. Granwell was the senior international tax adviser at the Treasury Department and was responsible for advising the Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy on legislation, regulatory and administrative matters involving international taxation and directing the U.S. tax treaty program.

Mr. Granwell began his career working at Wall Street law firms. He then moved to Washington, D.C., to accept his government appointment to work for the Treasury Department. Thereafter, he returned to private practice in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Granwell was a tax attorney for a boutique international tax law firm.

Mr. Granwell is a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel and a well-known, frequent commentator and lecturer on international tax matters. He has authored numerous articles for publications, both in the United States and abroad. He has made presentations for the American Bar Association, Section of Taxation, the International Bar Association, the International Fiscal Association, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and other organizations in numerous countries around the world. Mr. Granwell also is an active member of the STEP, particularly organizing, moderating and presenting at educational webinars, and is a former chair of the Mid Atlantic Branch, the current Co-Director of Programs for the Mid Atlantic Branch, and a frequent contributor to STEP USA Alerts.

 

John Bunge_FedBarJohn Bunge | Holland & Knight

John Bunge is a tax and private wealth services attorney in Holland & Knight’s Nashville office. Mr. Bunge helps clients navigate the confluence of tax planning, business succession planning and estate planning, and seeks to find the most elegant solutions possible to reach their goals.

Mr. Bunge’s wealth preservation experience includes income, gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer tax minimization, through the use of irrevocable trusts, sales and gifts to trusts, charitableinterest trusts and grantor-retained annuity trusts, among other sophisticated wealth planning strategies. He also advises families on the formation of investment entities, such as family limited partnerships and family LLCs.

Mr. Bunge helps clients reach their charitable goals, using charitable giving techniques to minimize income, estate and gift taxes, and advising clients on the formation and operation of tax-exempt organizations, including private foundations.

He also counsels families regarding the formation, structuring and operation of family offices and private trust companies.

Additionally, Mr. Bunge helps clients minimize income taxes through individual, partnership and corporate tax planning. He also has experience assisting taxpayers through IRS audits, appeals and U.S. Tax Court litigation.

 

Briahnna Skinner_FedBarBriahnna Skinner | Holland & Knight

Briahnna Skinner is a Private Wealth Family Fiduciary Services Director based in Holland & Knight’s Boston office. Ms. Skinner has 10 years of experience providing estate planning, estate administration and trust administration services to high-net-worth clients.

Ms. Skinner focuses on providing support to clients with complex family estate plans and high maintenance asset structures to ensure that administration is carried out properly. She maintains relationships and provides support to families and fiduciaries in administering their complex lives by working collaboratively with outside professionals, including accountants, insurance agents, financial advisors and client family offices, to facilitate coordinated action on a client’s behalf. She tracks key dates for required entity maintenance activities and coordinates with the client’s team of advisors to timely complete administration items relating to trust annuities, promissory notes, life insurance policies, real estate, art, and corporate entities. Ms. Skinner and the family fiduciary services team also provide bill pay services, account reporting, and facilitate document sharing, including secure file sharing for critical documents.

Ms. Skinner assists attorneys in Holland & Knight’s Private Wealth Services Group in delivering timely, economical and proactive service to their high-net-worth clients. She creates flow charts of estate plans and entity structures, prepares asset summaries, and provides assistance to clients in updating beneficiary designations and re-titling accounts to align with their estate planning objectives.

In addition, Ms. Skinner provides support for internal Private Wealth Services Family Fiduciary Services initiatives, including the development of a Holland & Knight Fiduciary Services management database and implementation of a Holland & Knight Fiduciary Standards Policy.

Prior to rejoining Holland & Knight, Ms. Skinner worked in the wealth management department of another Boston law firm.

 

Rachel M. Deming_FedBarRachel M. Deming | Holland & Knight

Rachel Deming is a private wealth services attorney in Holland & Knight’s Dallas office. Ms. Deming focuses her practice on estate planning, probate, tax-exempt organizations and family office planning.

Ms. Deming also advises public and private clients on a full spectrum of corporate tax services, including planning, research and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). In addition, she has a significant background in drafting wills, revocable trusts and various estate planning documents.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Ms. Deming practiced in M&A with a Big Four accounting firm, where she advised clients on federal income tax issues relating to domestic and multi-national strategic mergers, acquisitions, dispositions and separations, with an emphasis on corporate taxation.
