Program Summary

Join Senator Doug Jones, one of the authors of the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA), and a group of experts as we learn about the Act and recent litigation challenging it. The CTA came into effect in January 2024 and imposes broad disclosure requirements on all types of corporate entities, including LLCs and LLPs.

Senator Jones is a former U.S. Senator and a former U.S. Attorney. He was one of the original authors of the Corporate Transparency Act and provides unique insights into the Act and its implications for companies. Senator Jones will guide our discussion by asking questions informed by his time as a legislator and former US Attorney.

Gene is a tax attorney at ArentFox Schiff who advises business clients nationwide and internationally on tax planning, tax controversies, and transactional tax matters. He leads ArentFox Schiff’s Corporate Transparency Act Task Force and advises clients on all aspects of the CTA.

 

John Way, Shareholder | Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, P.C.

John is a tax attorney and the Chair of Schwabe’s CTA Committee. He works with business owners on their tax, business, estate and succession planning, including transitioning out of their business, whether by sale, reorganization, or liquidation. He also represents clients in their dealings with the IRS and state and local taxing authorities, including the Washington and Oregon Departments of Revenue. John was previously an Adjunct Professor at the University of Washington’s School of Law, teaching in the Masters in Taxation program. He was also the past Chair of the American Bar Association’s Real Property Trust and Estate Section’s Elder Law and Special Needs Planning Group, a Past President of the South Puget Sound Estate Planning Council, a Fellow with the American Bar Foundation, and a former City Council Member.
