Program Summary

This course is designed to provide an overview of the types of communications that clients commonly expect from their attorneys and the ethical duties that attorneys have relative to those expectations. We will analyze this in the context of four topics of current interest: (1) The Corporate Transparency Act, (2) Notification of Data Breach, (3) Notification of a Mistake, and (4) Prospectively Limiting Malpractice Liability. Attorneys should be able to take from this course various considerations and solutions for improving client communications while simultaneously increasing their compliance with ethics rules.

Jen is a partner in the Antitrust, Competition & Distribution and Business Litigation practice groups. She focuses her practice on litigating unfair competition, intellectual property, trade secret misappropriation, distribution and antitrust matters, and providing advice and guidance to clients concerning distribution, antitrust, advertising and unfair competition issues and the protection of intellectual property.

Jen has trial experience in both federal and state courts, and has drafted numerous agreements related to product distribution in the United States and internationally.

As a member of Thompson Hine’s Office of General Counsel, Amy conducts research and advises the firm’s lawyers on a variety of substantive legal ethics, privilege and liability issues. She also reviews and analyzes business intake conflicts, outside counsel guidelines and ethical screens; advises the firm’s lawyers on bar admissions matters; and provides guidance on ethical and liability issues to administrative departments throughout the firm. In addition, Amy has responsibility for co-editing Thompson Hine’s legal ethics blog, The Law for Lawyers Today, which has been named a top law blog by the ABA Journal.

Prior to joining the firm, Amy spent eight years working in the Child Support Unit of the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, first as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, then as a Managing Attorney.
