Program Summary

Session I - Navigating Tomorrow’s Legal Landscape as Generative AI Goes Mainstream – Devin Bates

As generative AI (GAI) outlasts the buzz and permeates deeper into life as we know it, our lives and our law practices will see significant change. While threats exist, so do tremendous opportunities for lawyers to capitalize on areas of practice that will be expanded by the dawn of GAI. This 1-hour CLE will navigate the contours of a legal future where GAI becomes an indispensable ally, reshaping how legal professionals work and providing a roadmap for adapting to this era of unprecedented technological advancement.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • How the law has already changed to address GAI and where future changes to the law are likely to follow, with a discussion of opportunities that these changes present for lawyers
  • How the practice of law is already undergoing increased controls and scrutiny to shape GAI use
  • How GAI is already being used by some lawyers, with a futuristic discussion of where, when, and how GAI is poised to more radically transform legal practice in coming years

Session II – Socially ethical: General ethics guide for lawyers using social media – Amy McClurg

This seminar is designed to enhance awareness of common ethics rules implicated by social media use. Discussions center around basic guidance for maximizing adherence to the applicable ethics rules and how to avoid potential pitfalls. The ethics rules will be analyzed in a generalized context applicable to a host of social media platforms.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • Confidentiality Concerns and Rule 1.6
  • Unauthorized Practice of Law and Rule 5.5
  • Communications Regarding Services and Rule 7.1
