Program Summary

In this presentation we will explore the laws and treasury regulations governing inherited IRAs, focusing on the taxation of distributions from IRAs and strategies to effectively plan for trusts or individuals receiving those distributions. We will then cover charitable contributions of IRA funds either directly to a charity or via a trust.

Participants will gain insights into advanced IRA trust planning, which will be discussed throughout the presentation, and the significance of beneficiary designations, including a thorough examination of categories of designated beneficiaries and “eligible designated beneficiaries,” turning our lens on the distinctions between these categories given the death of the “stretch” IRA, in light of SECURE and SECURE 2.0.

The presentation will close with a review of approaches to the administration of IRAs and related trust administration issues.

This course is co-sponsored with myLawCLE.

Key topics to be discussed:
