Program Summary

The rule of law and the independence of the judiciary are being debated everywhere today. These principles are fundamental to the strength of our democracy. To meet the moment, United States District Judges Beth Bloom and Robin Rosenberg developed Courts and Civility, an adult-focused program that:

  • INFORMS the public about the rule of law and what courts do.
  • PROMOTES the need for civility and respect for the rule of law and the judiciary.

This detailed, easily adaptable program includes a PowerPoint and interactive handouts that judges, lawyers, and community leaders can use to educate the public about the courts and the importance of civility.

Presented by The Federal Bar Association Judiciary Division; FBA Civics, Community Service & Outreach Committee. Presented jointly with the American Inns of Court.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • What is the Rule of Law
  • How are Courts Charged with Upholding the Rule of Law
  • How do Courts Accomplish the Objectives
  • What are the Expectations for Civility?
  • How can Lawyers Practice Civility in the Zealous Representation of Their Clients
  • Ethics in Civility
