Program Summary

This program examines the evolving landscape of Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) and the significant regulatory and policy changes reshaping how work authorization is issued, renewed, and verified in the United States. Participants will gain a sophisticated understanding of the legal framework governing EADs, the practical impact of shortened validity periods and the rollback of broad automatic extensions, and the heightened compliance risks facing employers. The program also provides practitioner-focused guidance on Form I-9 obligations, managing work authorization gaps, and mitigating enforcement, discrimination, and reputational risks, equipping attorneys to advise employers strategically in an increasingly complex and enforcement-driven environment.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • Recent DHS and USCIS policy changes affecting EAD issuance, renewal, and validity
  • The end of automatic EAD extensions and resulting compliance challenges
  • Impact on key EAD categories and interaction with underlying immigration status
  • Form I-9 reverification requirements and managing work authorization gaps
  • Employer liability, enforcement trends, and discrimination risk mitigation
  • Best practices for tracking EADs, audits, and employer compliance strategies

This course is co-sponsored with myLawCLE.
