Program Summary

Legal Writing: A 360 Degree View offers a practical, accessible deep dive into the core principles of persuasive legal communication, both in and beyond the courtroom, from all hands who work in the field. This presentation moves beyond brief writing to cover the everyday writing lawyers rely on: Emails, letters, and internal memos that often carry just as much weight as formal filings. Attendees will learn not only what to do, but what to avoid, balancing clarity, tone, structure, and credibility. With examples, checklists, and modern tools like AI-assisted editing, this session is designed to sharpen writing immediately. The presentation breaks down the dos and don’ts of legal writing, from avoiding legalese and passive voice to crafting clear issue statements and recognizing when to revise. It also includes a rapid-fire “bootcamp” section with five actionable edits that can improve writing by 20 percent overnight. After all, the difference between a forgettable sentence and a persuasive one might just be a few edits away.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • Everyday legal writing that matters
  • The essentials of clarity and credibility
  • Structuring for impact
  • Revision strategies that work
  • Modern tools for better writing
  • Rapid-fire writing fixes: The 5 edits rules
