Program Summary

In this program, attendees will learn the intricacies of practice in chapter 13 bankruptcy, including considerations and reasons to choose chapter 13, the relevant filings and what they all mean to the client, plan confirmation, strategies for dealing with unexpected hurdles in the course of the case, and how to see the case through to discharge (or another successful outcome!) for clients. While the focus of the program is on chapter 13, topics relating to chapter 7 or 11 will be discussed when necessary.

Since graduating from law school, Justin has focused his practice on bankruptcy court and bankruptcy appellate work. He regularly represents debtors, creditors, and trustees in complex chapter 7 and chapter 13 cases and represents struggling small businesses in chapter 11. He has obtained significant victories for debtors and trustees at the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Justin has served as chair of the Chicago Bar Association’s Bankruptcy and Reorganization Committee, has been an Illinois Super Lawyers “Rising Star” in consumer bankruptcy every year from 2013 to 2022, and a “Super Lawyer” for the year 2023. Justin is the proud recipient of Chicago Volunteer Legal Services 2019 “Distinguished Service” award for his pro bono service helping veterans and low income individuals navigate the bankruptcy system.
