Program Summary

Attorneys, regardless of where they practice, are required to maintain competency, which includes how technology impacts the security and privacy of client communications and information, billing, and oversight of others within a law firm. This presentation is geared towards integrating cybersecurity, privacy and data protection in the current technology and threat landscape, as well as how technology can give rise to legal malpractice claims. Another focal point will be the role of technology in attorney wellness because studies have shown that technology can be both helpful and harmful and attorneys' stress levels are among the highest of any profession. The course also highlights New York's requirements, artificial intelligence and risk mitigation.

This course is co-sponsored with myLawCLE.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • Understand the current threat landscape
  • Appreciate competency and state bar requirements regarding technology and relatedly cybersecurity
  • Integrate technology into practice and learn what vulnerabilities can exacerbate attorney wellness, malpractice risk, and confidentiality
