Program Summary

This program addresses the common resistance to adopting new technology within law firms. We will explore the challenges of technology implementation, onboarding, and training, particularly focusing on small to mid-size firms, where resources for change management are often limited. We will provide strategies for identifying and learning new technology, discuss internal messaging from the top down to promote the strengths and benefits of new technology, and discuss key cultural components that must be built over time to promote technological innovation tailored to firms of different sizes. Special emphasis will be placed on how small and mid-size firms can leverage internal resources to successfully navigate these changes, with discussion of the costs associated with different techniques.

This course is co-sponsored with myLawCLE.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • Understand Resistance to Change: Attendees will learn to identify common reasons for resistance to technology adoption within law firms and understand the psychological and organizational factors that contribute to this resistance
  • Develop Change Management Strategies: Attendees will be equipped with concrete strategies for managing and facilitating technology transitions, with a focus on effective communication, training, and support mechanisms tailored to small and mid-size firms
  • Communication Strategies: Attendees will learn top-down and vertical communication strategies, with concrete steps to implement and to provide consistent messaging, create internal buy-in from key promoters in the firm, and to modify behavior of those most resistant to change
