The tools have moved well past the chatbot—and the ethics rules moved with them.
Artificial intelligence is no longer a separate product you visit. It is built into software your firm already pays for. You can give an AI standing instructions, connect it to your document system, email, and calendar, and install packages other people built. Each step makes the tool more useful, and each one raises a different question under the Rules of Professional Conduct.
Paste a client document into an unvetted tool, and confidentiality is in play. Give a connector access, and it can reach an entire client file, not the one document you meant to share. File AI-drafted work, and candor to the tribunal covers every citation. Competence now includes the benefits and risks of the technology you use. Supervision covers AI work product the way it covers a new associate's.
You walk out with prompts that produce usable drafts instead of generic filler, a skill you write once, a framework for evaluating connectors and plugins, and the questions to ask before client data goes near an AI tool. No coding is required, and no particular product is assumed.

SESSION 1 – Prompting, Skills, Connectors, and Plugins | 12:00pm – 1:00pm
The first hour is practical. It covers what separates a prompt that produces a usable draft from one that produces generic filler. It covers what a skill is and how to write one. And it covers what connectors and plugins do when you want the AI to reach your own files and systems.
BREAK | 1:00pm – 1:10pm
SESSION 2 – Ethics Under the ABA Model Rules: Competence, Confidentiality, Supervision, and Candor | 1:10pm – 2:10pm
The second hour is the ethics hour: four duties, each stress-tested by AI. Competence includes understanding the benefits and risks of the technology you use. Confidentiality does not pause when you paste a client document into a tool nobody vetted — and connectors raise that question in its sharpest form, because a connector can reach an entire client file rather than the one document you meant to share. Supervision applies to work an AI produces the same way it applies to work a new associate produces. Candor to the tribunal applies to every citation in a filing, no matter what generated it. You will leave with a short list of questions to ask before any client data goes near an AI tool.
