Two hours, two professions, one case file
This two-hour course is proof that doctors and lawyers can collaborate. Attorney Rachel V. Rose — who advises on healthcare, cybersecurity, and qui tam matters and teaches bioethics at Baylor College of Medicine — co-presents with Dr. Matthew C. Starke, a board-certified, trauma-fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who has trained and worked at some of the busiest trauma centers in the country.
The course opens on the legal side of medical litigation: procedural and evidentiary issues, the types of experts, privacy laws, and artificial intelligence considerations. From there, the surgeon takes over: musculoskeletal anatomy and the related nerves and vessels, positioning and imaging options, diagnostic tests, and first-hand case studies of common orthopedic injuries and trauma.
Attendees leave speaking enough of each other’s language to be effective — understanding clinical nomenclature in legal proceedings and avoiding the landmines that come with medical records, experts, and AI.
