Program Summary

More Inquiries Aren’t the Goal. The Right Engagements Are

Getting found is not the hard part anymore. Once a prospect finds your firm, the client experience decides what happens next. They hire you, seek another attorney, or refer someone else. A generic “full-service” pitch gives them no reason to choose you.

Overpromise results, and trust erodes before the engagement begins. Skip structured intake, and unqualified leads consume attorney time. Rely on a single source of new matters, and growth stalls when that source slows. Market beyond your capacity, and client service slips as volume rises.

Ruby Lichte Powers and Wendy S. Meadows walk you through the systems behind sustainable growth. You will define your market position and communicate value without overpromising. You will build consultation and intake procedures that qualify leads and set realistic expectations. You will develop referral relationships and track which ones produce qualified matters. Every step rests on attorney judgment that technology can support but not replace.

Key topics to be discussed:

  • Market Position and Niche
Define your core practice, ideal client, and the problems you solve so your firm stops reading as a generic “full-service” offering and your niche sharpens your opportunities rather than limiting them.
  • Client-Centered Messaging
Translate legal expertise into client language, communicate value without overpromising results, and keep one consistent message across your website, professional profiles, consultations, and educational content.
  • Trust Through Clear Communication
Use clear, direct communication from the first consultation onward to set realistic expectations on process, fees, and options, including in difficult or emotionally charged client conversations.
  • Intake That Qualifies Clients
Structure consultations and intake to separate qualified from unqualified leads, gather the right information before engagement, and use technology that supports, not replaces, attorney judgment.
  • Referral and Development Systems
Move beyond a single source of new matters through referral relationships, complementary professionals, speaking, writing, and repeatable follow-up, then track which sources actually generate qualified matters.
  • Growth Without Losing Identity
Align marketing with actual firm capacity, keep client service consistent as volume increases, and evaluate whether your processes produce sustainable growth rather than simply more inquiries.

SESSION 2 – The Client Experience Advantage: Turning Law Firm Differentiation Into Trust, Referrals, and Better Intake | 3:40pm – 4:40pm

Once prospective clients find a law firm, the client experience can determine whether they move forward, seek another attorney, or refer someone else to the firm. Drawing on Wendy S. Meadows’ work in family law, mediation, collaborative practice, coaching, and law-firm consulting, the session will address practical methods for communicating a firm’s niche, building trust during intake, managing client expectations, and developing a practice model that encourages sustainable relationships and referrals.
